Hello to any English Country Dancers out there!
I was wondering...where do you get your music for a lot of your dances? Is there a certain 'kind' of music you use? Could you recommend a CD or two? I have a few CDs on hand for the class that I will begin teaching in September, but I'm open for recommendations and am curious to know what CD/songs you use. :) Let me know!
Blessings!
3 of your thoughts:
It depends on which dances you will be teaching.
Bare Necessities (a folk band) have some excellent ECD CDs - you can find them on Amazon, ebay, itunes, etc.

(note that most English Country Dances have matching songs by the same name. However its ok to fudge if you find a song that you think fits with a particular dance.)
If you are able to give me an idea of which dances you will be teaching, I could more easily suggest music for you. :)
A fun suggestion before I stop clogging your comment box. ;) One of the most popular daces amongst a lot of home schoolers is "The Gae Gorden." Its a very simple circle dance (actually a Scottish Country Dance rather than English) that is super fun to dance to "Maries Wedding" by the High Kings (you can find the song on itunes.) If you'd like instructions for that (or any other dances) just let me know! :D
Dear me, I have dreamed of learning that kind of dancing!
Have fun!

Yes, Bare Necessities is a good band for ECD! We have Vol. 3 (I'm not sure how many volumes there are). I searched the web to find the instructions for dances on that CD.
I like to download individual dance tunes off of Amazon (or it could be iTunes) instead of purchasing a whole CD of dances I might not use.
Another folk band is Yankee Ingenuity, who did the music for the popular square dance "the Levi Jackson Rag", which we've done in our ECD circle-- it's a bunch of fun for advanced dancers!
Hope this helps,
Melody
