Wrapped in His Peace

When I think of the word ‘peace’, I picture myself in a large field, surrounded by daisies and buttercups. A clear blue sky over head, and the sound of a rippling brook in the nearby woods. I picture myself kneeling in this field, my eyes closed in prayer, and my hands uplifted to heaven. Spending quality time with my Savior while being enveloped in His nature and beauty.

But I don’t have to be in that field to find His peace. No, His peace can be anywhere…at any time, wherever I am. But that peace only comes from knowing Him. An unbeliever cannot have this true peace from God.

We must call on the LORD for peace in all times of our life. Most of the time we do it only in the really tough times that we go through. But we should remember His peace – and that it’s always there for us – in the day-to-day life. I catch myself – many times! – just having to pause in my daily duties and ask for God’s peace in my day. Sometimes I’ll be feeling frustrated about a school problem, have trouble with a younger sibling…but I need God’s peace, as well as His patience, in these times. Many times I have to just stop, give my burden over to the LORD and pray His peace on my soul. He will always grant it, if we ask. He is always there for us to call on.

‘Peace I leave with you. My peace I give unto you. Not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled; neither let it be afraid.’

~John 14:27

On our path to godliness, ‘peace’ will be a sure thing that we will always need. And God is always there to supply it. He sends trials our way to test us and see if we will call on Him…or try to get through them ourselves. I pray that you will always remember His presence, and that He is always there – ready to help you overcome trials…He is always there to give you peace.

Blueberry Picking...

A few weeks ago, my family (everyone except Dad - who was at work) went blueberry picking at an organic blueberry farm in town.  We had a lot of fun! :)

In all, we picked 30 lbs. of blueberries!! :)  Yummy!  Most of them we froze...while others, we had on ice cream that night ;)

for Mrs. Brandi P.  Her husband was a truck driver who drove some sort of flammable materials.  His truck caught fire and exploded sometime last week (I believe it was).  His memorial was held last Wednesday.  He leaves behind his wife (Brandi) and three children...one who is yet to be born.  Mrs. P. *is* a believer - which is a wonderful comfort, but she is greatly suffering.  Please keep the family in your prayers.

Doer of Deeds

First of all, just wanted to let all my sweet followers know that I am FINALLY home - after being gone a whole week!!  I PROMISE pictures and a very, very lengthy post (you have to promise to comment ;) as soon as I some pics from my friend.  But for now, I just wanted to share this inspiring quote that my aunt shared with me (Thank you, Tia!)...I hope it inspires YOU.

Not home yet...

Hello everyone!

I am sorry I have not been on lately.  I was gone since last Wednesday to Lincoln City, Oregon on MSOA's teacher retreat!!  It was SO much fun, and I got to meet and interact with a lot of people who I will be assisting in teaching.  I'm staying at my friend's house (the president of the school ;) till...tomorrow (then Wed. going to my Aunt and Uncle's...) and going to a drawing workshop today and tomorrow.  Oh, and remember I told ya'll that I was planning on teaching English Country Dancing and Crochet at MSOA?  Well, the crochet class was dropped, because no one was signing up for it...but my ECD class has 7 students already!!  And two others are guaranteed - so 9! ;)  I am so excited!  And then, since my crochet class got cancelled...I will be assisting in the Drawing 101 class...and I'm also assisting in Theatre Arts (drama).  So excited for school to start!  September 9th couldn't get here any faster!! :D
Anyway, I will do a better post when I get home...sometime this weekend.  I'm using my friend's laptop at the moment, so don't have any pics on it.  Promise some soon!! :)

Joyful in Him


Isn’t it amazing to know that our thoughts and feelings can be broadcasted to the people around us, just by the way we act? A lot of the time we do get misinterpreted, but…be honest. How many people can wrongly interpret between someone being ‘joyful’ and someone having a ‘broken spirit’?

To be honest, I had difficulty writing this article. I mean, how could I describe ‘joy’? What could I write that could transfer ‘joy’ to my readers? Joy can come in so many different things…it can be a happy smile, gleeful laughing, jumping high in the air. But it can also be quiet things. The contentment and joy of laying in a field full of wildflowers, with the wind making the tall grass sway around you, the sun kissing your face.
But what is the most wonderful joy of all?

The joy of knowing that you are one of His chosen.

The joy of knowing that when you pass from this life, into the next, you’ll see Jesus face to face. Be able to hear His laugh and the voices of the angels surrounding you.
The joy of knowing that He loves you; that He has a special plan for your life; that you are unique in His eyes; that He’s always beside you…and will *never* leave you – no matter what happens, no matter what you do, no matter where you go. Isn’t this a…peace-filled joy? Don’t you feel this awesome joyfulness well up in your soul to think these thoughts?
Our God is a loving God…He knew what joy felt like when He first made the earth and man. Don’t you think when He looked down and ‘saw that it was good’ that He felt…happy? Glad? Joyful? He wanted to share with us that feeling...He made the feeling of ‘joy’. And you know what? In the Bible, it says that when ONE person comes to know Jesus as their personal Savior, the whole heaven rejoices! The angels are filled with joy because of ONE person being called and receiving the LORD Jesus. Isn’t that a stunning thought? Doesn’t that give you goose bumps?
How many times do you feel joyful for your salvation? Do you ever actually take a moment to just smile for the sheer knowledge that you are loved by your Creator? Think about this today, and thank the LORD with a JOY filled heart! You are His child…what greater joy could there be than knowing this?

Definition of Love

(an article that I wrote for my column in Visions of Virtue...)

Love is a beautiful fruit that God made and put into us. Without love, this world would be a terrible place to live in. Our God is a creative God and He made different kinds of love. There’s a love that you have for friends, for family, the love between a husband and wife, and most importantly, the love that God has for us – and that we should have for Him. I think it is truly amazing at how many different actions the love fruit has! Each different kind of love is experienced so totally different than the others. Knowing how much the Word of God mentions love lets us know how important it is and how important God wants us to view it.


Referring to Agape (Godly) love, God tells us in Deuteronomy 6:5 – “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” Isn’t that a beautiful passage? The LORD commands us to love Him with our whole being! Doesn’t it make sense, though, to do that? I mean, God made us – shouldn’t we give Him something in return? But because of our sinful nature, we do not always want to love God. When things happen in our lives that hurt us and are painful, do we still love God? Are we like Job who blessed God even when everything was taken away from him and he was near death?

Another kind of love is the love that we each have for our family. I have a different kind of love for my Dad than I do for my Mother. The love I have for my Dad is the daughter-to-her-protected kind of love. As the daughter of my Dad - the leader of our family - I have a "submitting love" to him. He is the most important man in my life, until (LORD-willing) my husband takes his place. The love that I have for my Mother is the daughter want-to-be-like-you kind of love. My Mother is one of my best friends and mentor. She has guided me in the process of learning the arts of homemaking and has taught me how to run a household. She is a woman in my life who I want to be like when I grow up. A woman in my life who I love dearly because she chose to give birth to me and raise me for God's glory. The love that I have for my siblings is different also. I've never known life without a sibling (my brother is older than me) and having a house always filled with the sounds of my family is something that I have come to love very dearly. As well as my extended family (relatives), they have always been a part of my life and I am always looking forward to family get-togethers so that I'm able to see and talk to all of them again.

The love between a husband and wife is the foundation of a successful marriage and happy family. Before two people get married, they should really know if they love each other. If they love each other, not with that "crush" kind of love or that "I'll stick with you for awhile" love. They must know the meaning of the true, deep love that God designed just for men and women to have for each other. So many times in the Bible, God speaks to husbands and wives. "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her." (Ephesians 5:25) "Husbands, love your wives and do not be embittered against them." (Colossians 3:19) "Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the LORD. " (Colossians 3:18) "Wives, be subject to your husbands, as to the LORD." (Ephesians 5:22) Isn't that verse to husbands in Ephesians a clear and perfect example of how much God loves us? God commands husbands to love their wives just as Christ loved the church - and died for her! Wives are commanded to love and be submissive to their husbands, as unto the LORD.

I won't have enough room to write all about the different kinds of love, but I'm sure that by now, you must get the point of this fruit of the Spirit! A good example on love is the different love that God calls us to show to "our neighbors" and the kind of love that we (especially teen girls) must keep our hearts closely guarded from.

Apples...pictures...at Grandparents' :)

Last Saturday, my family and I went to visit my grandparents.  My Grandma had recently had a colonoscopy and had some pollops removed from her intestines.  Lab results are still to be awaited (you can keep her in your prayers about this).  But, anyway, we all wanted to go over and visit...and, as always, went and had some fun outside. :)
Grandma's apple orchard is doing well in producing lots of apples.  They're aren't 100% ready just yet, but...it didn't matter to us girls. ;)  We ate them anyway!

That College Question

In a letter from a dear friend of mine, she asked my opinion on girls going to college. She’s a recent homeschool graduate and she’s been getting that college question asked of her a lot lately.


Now, I’ve thought quite extensively on this subject – and have gotten other girls’ (and adults’) opinions on it, and I have come to this conclusion.

I don’t exactly plan on going to college…but that doesn’t mean that the LORD won’t call me to go. Just because I don’t have it planned in my life, doesn’t mean that it won’t happen. Think about it, you don’t plan everything that happens in your life, you can’t stop God from making something take place along your life road. If you were to say, ‘I am NOT going to college’, it would be tempting God’s sense of humor. :) I could just picture Him saying, ‘Well now…Miss Doe says that she is ‘definitely not going’ to college, but I think I’m gonna change that.’ :)  If God makes it possible – and clear that He wants me to go – I will go.

I completely agree with many Christians views that women should be wives, mothers, and keepers of their homes...BUT that doesn't necessarily mean that they shouldn't go to college. In between the time that you are single and the time that you meet the man of your dreams and get married; besides serving your family at home and learning more about housekeeping skills, I don't think it's wrong to go to college. I think taking college classes that could help you in your job as a wife and mother would be something that God would approve of.

For example, I have always had an interest in studying herbs. Now, I could take some online classes and get a certificate and be a licensed herbalist and USE that knowledge in my wife and motherly skills, etc. OR, to study to be a nurse, doctor, or midwife. That's not something that, as soon as you graduate you NEED to become (a nurse, doctor, or midwife). You can use that knowledge to help family members (or other women – in the midwife section :) or friends.

I think a good answer to give people who ask you if you plan to go to college, would be what I tell them. I usually say "I don't really have any plans to, at the moment. If God wants me to and makes it possible, I would most likely take online classes. And even then, I would take classes in a subject that I could later use in my main goal in life – when I, LORD-willing, become a wife and mother".

A lot of Christians I know are staunch ‘God would never call a woman to college’ OR ‘if you’re a young woman who hopes to get married and raise a family some day, but you go to college, you’re in sin’. I admit that college can be a tough experience. I know a few people who have turned from their faith because they went to college and were influenced by atheists and now, do not even believe there is even a God. BUT, that’s where GOD comes in (isn’t He everywhere?! :)…if you are one of His chosen children, He wouldn’t send you into a pack of wolves not being sure that you would not turn from Him. And then, there are your parents, of course…who get to make the decision about which college you go to. There are more and more Christian colleges starting – it’s very encouraging to see this! – and you could possibly take classes from one of those.

Anyway, I hope this article doesn’t sound dogmatic. :) I like looking at such debated issues with a wide viewpoint. The bottom line to the college question is: Wherever God leads, you will follow. Regardless if you’re planning on going to college or not. Trust in the LORD and He shall direct your paths.
