Last Saturday, I went with my bro to go see what all the hype was about the new movie 'The Avengers'. Don't get me wrong! I'd been really looking forward to it coming out, but seriously? I hadn't heard ONE bad report on it! Not one.
Which made me all the more excited to see it;)
And let me tell you...
I wasn't disappointed.
---
::lets out a deep breath:: where to start, where to start...
Samuel L. Jackson as...
Nick Fury
I loved how all the Marvel superheroes all tied up in this one movie...and how Fury was at at the center of it all because he is the one who brings The Avengers together. Jackson is a great actor. I really like him and his role, BUT...I was sometimes confused as to whether he was a good guy or not. Just in some scenes.
For example, there's this one part that Captain America finds something on board their plane (that doesn't sound like a good enough word to describe their headquarters) and it all points to Nick Fury having hidden a piece of information from them. And you're kind of wondering 'well, does that make him good or bad?'
I like how he kept them altogether, though. He was a good leader and 'general', if you will.
---
Chris Evans as...
Steve Rogers/Captain America
If I was looking forward to seeing any of the superheroes in this movie, it was Captain America. I am a very loyal fan of his. He is one of my all-time favorite superheroes. (I don't care for the actor that much - as a person. But...that's another story :P)
A friend of mine recently asked me why I liked him so much. Honestly, he just has the best character. He's strong. He's a leader. He's a fighter.
Captain America was such a fatherly, 'older man' type of character in this movie. He knew what had to be done and he held the team together to GET it done.
He and Ironman had a few head bumps. Mainly because Tony Stark is a bit full of himself. He throws a punchline at Captain America about him (CA) being 'an old man', etc. ::chuckles:: But I think Capt. America did surprisingly well for his 'age'! ;)

Robert Downey Jr. as...
Tony Stark/Ironman
Seriously, no one could've played a better Ironman than RDJ. He's a fabulous actor, but on top of that, Tony Stark's character is a lot like RDJ in real life, so...I guess that sorta helped it along. haha Anyway, fabulous job, as usual, Downey!
He and 'The Hulk' really hit it off. Like, they become best friends in the movie. And there is one scene, in particular, that I love seeing Stark actually showing a bit of his caring and unselfish side. Yeah, just try picturing that for a second;)
Ironman's character gave the movie a very strong, but yet (in some parts) comedic flair.
Oh and by the way, who knew that Jarvis' voice is played by Paul Bettany?? I JUST found that out... :P

Chris Hemsworth as...
Thor
Thor was, easily, my second favorite character in the movie. I love his personality. I love his strength - physically and character-wise. He hates what his brother is doing, and is out to stop him no matter what the consequences. He sees the distinction between good and evil. And of course, he had his legit hammer that he fights with...I mean, seriously. How cool is that? And only HE can lift it? Epic.
Oh and not to mention, he has amazing hair and eyes...and a voice that I could listen to all day:P He was lion-y as ever.
Okay, I will be honest here. I was a little worried that they were gonna try making Black Widow pull off a sexy look and attitude. I was just waiting for a bad scene to come on with her and one of the guys.
I was SOOO happy to report that there wasn't anything 'bad' with her. I literally sighed with relief by the end of the movie because I was so worried that there would be.
Some people thought that she and Hawkeye would have a thing going on together - and they easily could have, but my friend and I agree that they had a very pure, bro/sis relationship which was refreshing to see in a modern movie.
She had some amazing fighting skills. I was a bit jealous... :P Her hair color was a little annoying at times, but I guess it's just a character trait for her:)
Good character, though. I really liked her. And when my little sister is older, I know she'll like sharing her name:P

Jeremy Renner as...
Clint Barton/Hawkeye
I had no idea who the superhero Hawkeye was. Knew nothing about him. Ddn't know what he looked like. Didn't know his 'power'. Nothing.
Heck, I wasn't dispapointed. This dude was legit.
I mean, just look at that ^ pic.
He could shoot arrows like a boss. Was fast. Agile. Smart.
I've always had a thing for bows and arrows. Not to mention guys that shoot them.
I've always had a thing for bows and arrows. Not to mention guys that shoot them.
Not to mention, he wasn't ugly. His clean-shaven face was an A+ for me.
So a good-looking, bow and arrow boss, superhero? I don't think anyone has a problem with that.
There was a rumor circulating that Marvel may make a 'Hawkeye' movie. Not sure if that's legitimate or not.
And like I said, he and Black Widow had a very...interesting relationship. Nothing awkward ever happened between them, but you could tell that they knew each other very well. My bro knows more about superhero history. All I knew was that they got along well, and I liked both of them.
{There was a rumor that Joaquin Phoenix was going to be cast as Banner. Not sure how I feel about that. I really, really like Phoenix, but Ruffalo was perfect for this role!!}
I'm not a huge fan of The Hulk. I think he plays a good role as part of The Avengers, but I liked Banner better than The Hulk. Does that sound weird? :P Banner is calm, cool and collected. The Hulk just goes around growling and throwing things in the air.
Okay, he was a good character, though. I'm not saying he isn't! There is one part that I was super confused about him...and then one part that I could've just given him a hug. haha
Ah, the antagonist! A very evil one too. Though a bit confusing at times.
The last movie I saw Hiddleston in wasn't 'Thor', but 'War Horse'. And, if you've seen 'War Horse', then you know that it's impossible to hate him in that movie. So I still had my 'Oh, Tom Hiddleston is such a sweet guy!' because of seeing him in 'War Horse' last. I guess I wasn't really prepared to make him evil again (in my mind).
I don't think this movie was his best work. Neither does my bro. He seemed a touch dry in some parts...or like he wasn't really putting his whole self into the character. I think he did good! Just not excellent.
His hair kept driving me nuts too.
To conclude...
Fabulous movie.
Good, strong story.
Good, strong story.
Amazing action and computer graphics.
Intense drama.
Good character developement.
Loved all the superheroes.
Loved all the superheroes.
I only caught two bad words (I'm not one to really notice them all that much :/).
There is one part that Captain America says something that...well...I won't say what, but something good and funny. And...anyway, he's just the best. ::clears throat::
Ooh! And for those of you who are wondering, no there isn't any romance in it. At least, not any new romance;) Gwyneth Paltrow does grace the screen again as Miss Pepper Potts. I absolutely love her in this one!! She and Tony are just...adorable;)

So anyway...
Have you seen it?
What are you thoughts on it?
My rating:
9 out of 10

18 of your thoughts:

Love Capt., Hawkeye and Ironman:) I'm surprised they left out Wasp amd Ant man out of the movie ::Sighs::
Love ya Raquel:)

I loved reading this post! I saw The Avengers last Saturday also. However, I knew nothing about ANY of those superheroes. Of course, I'd heard of most of them, but knew none of their backgrounds. And I totally agree about your Hulk statement: I like Banner better than Hulk! :) Because I knew nothing about any of the heroes, I was a little worried I wouldn't like it, but I LOVED it! Great post!

I totally know what you meant with Loki. The actor didn't seem to get into the character and it was pretty obvious. Otherwise, he did very well!
The Hulk...::nods:: My thoughts exactly.
I REALLY want there to be a Hawkeye movie because that character is SO incredibly amazing!
Good review, Raquel!!!
I LOVED this movie :) I can't wait to see it again - and I'm determined that I will :) I saw it the day it opened with my bro and friends. I didn't have very high expectations (didn't think they could bring all those different super heroes together successfully) but through the whole thing all I could think was, "Wow, this is so great! I love this movie!"
Anyhow, I reviewed it on my blog, so if you want to read everything I thought about it...

Oh man. This movie kicked butt on so may levels. it was EPIC.
I'm a Marvel geek to begin with, so I'd been looking forward to this movie for YEARS. And now? I've seen it twice - and it's EASILY my favorite movie. EVER. (At least, until something more awesome comes out, which is going to be SERIOUSLY TOUGH considering how much I love, love, loved this one).
Loki is one of my favorite villains EVER - actually, strike that, he IS my favorite. I love Tom Hiddleston - I've seen him in Return to Cranford, Thor, War Horse, and the Avengers and he's amazing, plus he seems like a very nice guy in real life.
And then there's Hawkeye. Hawkeye BLEW ME AWAY and is easily my favorite Avenger - he was absolutely FANTASTIC. Then again, I also have a thing for Jeremy Renner (He's *amazing* in Ghost Protocol, and he also has a cameo in Thor).
Yeah, I could go on about this movie like literally all day, I loved it so much... but I probably shouldn't... I agree with everything you said about Tony, Bruce, Natascha, Thor (except Thor wasn't my second favorite) and Nick.... way to GO!!! *squeals in excitement about buying the movie as soon as it's available on preorder*
I saw The Avengers last week and really enjoyed it. I love how all of the superheros had to learn to work together. Same with you, my favorite was Captain America. I just love his honorable, kind character. A movie about Hawk Eye would be super cool! :)

"There's only one God, ma'am, and I'm pretty sure he doesn't dress like that."
^Epicly hilarious line. :D
I very much enjoyed the movie, I thought it was well worth the watch, a lot of fun, and quite humourous. It gets a thumbs up from me. :D
This movie looks pretty cool... well, as my little sister just said, 'since Raquel said it was awesome, I guess i can give it a try' ;D

Oh, I love, love, LOVED it! It was pretty amazing. And even though I had only seen Captain America before watching it, I didn't feel as though was missing anything, you know?
My favorite quote was when Captain America replied to Natasha "There's only one God...and I'm pretty sure He doesn't dress like that." :)
So, yup. Pretty cool movie.
Hawkeye and Captain America are my FAVORITES!!!! I always liked Legolas, but Hawkeye took his place!! :D And Captain America...well, I don't think I need to explain why I liked him. Iron Man was impossible not to like even though he was so full of himself. I heard so much about Thor being so totally amazing that I was kind of disappointed. He wasn't awesome enough. But also I haven't seen Thor, so maybe he's better in that? I haven't seen the Captain America movie either, but I still like him alot. :) Black Widow was a good character. Nothing that I didn't like but nothing that I really loved either. I agree! I liked Bruce Banner WAY better than the Hulk. I like at the end when Captain America is giving orders to people and he just tells the Hulk "Smash". :D I didn't really like Nick Fury. No offense to him, but his name is awesomer than his character. :)
My order from best to worst: Captain America, Hawkeye, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, Bruce Banner, Nick Fury, and (of course last) Loki.
loved the movie. :) yess Hawkeye. but see, I think he and Natasha should have their own movie, and have a romance. :)
YESYESYES. LOVELOVELOVE. that is all. my heart barely survived watching it... *sigh*
I saw it last Saturday at the theater as well! It was really, really good! We all loved it.
Still hoping to get to this one... but yeah, don't know if it will happen.
Just wow! That's a fantastic review. It was like watching the movie all over again, I was chuckling all the way throw it! I likey. =)
Nice review :) I want to see it...like a lot! I loved that part where you were talking about your brother knowing more of the background and you just knowing that they were friends...just loved it. Haha that sounds weird now that I reread. Ah well. Thanks for the review! Sierra
