The Amazing Spiderman

I bought my ticket a couple days early.  Got to Bridgeport 8 hours before it was supposed to start.  Waited in line for 4 hours.  Waited 1 hour in theaters and then... BAM!  I got to see this movie, opening night at exactly 12:02AM.

A movie that I was hesitant to see.  Hoping it was nothing like the previous three (with Tobey MacGuire).

A movie I hoped was worth the $12.75 I paid to see it.

This movie did not disappoint me.

Ladies and gentleman...

Andrew Garfield as...

Peter Parker/Spiderman

I was so, so, so worried that he would be another Tobey McGuire.
Awkward...weird...too nerdy...lame acting...not attractive...not right as Spiderman.

Well, let me tell you.  Andrew Garfield was born to be Peter Parker.

He was just nerdy enough...
could pull off glasses very well...
had legit hair...
I like his style of clothes...
was attractive (though I never thought I'd like nerdy looking dudes with glasses...)...
was just perfect.

The Spiderman costume was perfect.  They didn't focus too much on it.  He just drew it, made it, it fit well, voila!

I love how they portrayed Peter's character in this movie too.  He's a nerd, yes.  He's very smart, yes.  But he's also very polite.  Very shy and humble.  Very awkward (which makes it more humorous).  Very funny.

He was very real.

And that's something that I always look for in heroes.

He had his troubles.  He was weak at times.  He gets sad.  He gets happy.  He's romantic.  He loves school.  Hates getting up early in the morning.
You can just relate to him, as a human being.

The scene with how he discovered his powers was absolutely hilarious and perfect.

And I love how them emphasized that he's still normal...but not.
He didn't want to become a superhero.  It was just thrown at him.
And he does so well in keeping that 'I'm still normal' look about him, when inside he knows 'I could swing from the buildings through these streets if I wanted to'.

Hair.  'nough said.

Campbell Scott and Embeth Davidtz as...
Dr. Richard Parker and Mary Parker

I've seen Scott in two other movies (Follow the Stars Home and Duma).  I recognized him right away!  He pulled off the scientific doctor look very well!  But I wish he and Davidtz had had more screen time.  They're only in a couple shots (Davidtz in just one).  I'd never seen her act before, but the scene she did was okay. ::shrugs::
The last words he said to Peter were 'Be good'.  Just like a father, eh? :)

Oh and the little actor who played young Peter was absoutely...adorable.  I won't post a picture of him, though.  It's just anothrer reason why you need to go see this movie ;)

---

Emma Stone as...
Gwen Stacy

oh my goodness, oh my goodness, oh my goodness...
I loved Emma Stone in The Help.  And I loved her even more in this.  She was so perfect!!
She wasn't some ditzy, annoying, high-pitched, squeaky voiced flirt and girlfriend who was always worried about her bf and who loved him only because he was a superhero.  She loved Peter for Peter.  She was supportive.  She was encoruaging.  She helped him.  She was a strong womanly character.  Very modest - which I really, really, really appreciated.
I loved her hair in this too.  And her clothes were adorable

She and Garfield looked aw-dor-a-ble together too.  The romance wasn't overdone at all.  It was just perfect.  He liked her.  She didn't really even knew he existed.  They talk.  She likes him. The rest is history.

To any girls reading this, avert your eyes if you don't like seeing pictures of shirtless men with blood on them...
This part is really very sweet ^ <3
I love how she's just...there for him.  So supportive.  Loves him.
And as you can see, he's not really thinking about being hurt... ::clears throat::

Anyway, she was a perfect and darling character in Spiderman.  A worthy asset to the whole movie.  Love Stone.

Martin Sheen and Sally Field as...
Uncle Ben and Aunt Mae

I think Sheen and Field were cast very well.  You loved Uncle Ben enough so that when he died, you were kind of sorta freaking out and sad and crying. (Okay, I didn't quite cry...)
And Aunt Mae...you just wanted to hug.  Seriously.  She was just that perfect motherly aunt type of person. Who never had her own kids, so dotes and mothers and disciplines her nephew instead.
They were a very sweet couple. <3  and both are very well known actors!  So that was a plus.

---

Rhys Ifans as...

The Lizard/Dr. Curt Connors

Ahhh!!  Creepy, creepy!  Good actor for the doctor.  His character was very real, very believable.  And honestly, the way he becomes the lizard is very real too.
Okay, I just had to point out - in case you haven't noticed already - isn't this poster legit? ^ Look at the Spiderman reflection in his eye...epic.

---

So anyway, readers... ::clears throat::
You must go see this movie.

It's amazing (derp, The Amazing Spiderman)
Fabulous storyline.
Fabulous acting.
Some very intense scenes (one of which I screamed just about as loud as Emma Stone did...and my friend next to me probably went deaf).
They're NOTHING like the old ones. (they're so much better!!!!!!!)

This movie gave me a new appreciation for Spiderman.  I mean, I love the old comics.  My bro and I have read them to almost shreds. haha
And then seeing the McGuire versions was...sad.  Cuz I felt let down because they were so...bad:P
But this one...this Amazing Spiderman movie...totally swept me off my feet again!! <3 :)

I think I only caught 2 bad words.  And there is one scene where Stone is explaining to her father why she's not hungry and can't come out of her room (girls, I'm sure you all know what I mean by this).  I'm not even sure the guys 'got it'.  But just in case they do...there is that one scene.  And you can tell when it's coming up and stuff so yeah.
Also, and this might be a bit of a spoiler, but I'm going to say it anyway.  When Peter first gets his powers and is slowly starting to realize that he even has them, there is one scene where he touches a lady on her shoulder but can't pull his hand away.  He ends up ripping her shirt off and she is shown with only her bra on. :/  So yeah, boys, avert your eyes in that scene.  It's kind of hard NOT to, though, cuz the scene is...very funny.

They are already filming the sequel, which is rumored to come out in 2014!  I'm pretty stoked about that.

Oh and what are your thoughts on Spiderman being in the next Avengers???? ;)  It's not for sure yet, but he very well may be, because this movie was made by Marvel.  And Stan Lee wrote all the original Spidermans, etc., etc. ;)

Alrighty, now for the questions...

Have you seen it?
Did you like it?
What are your thoughts on it?

Raquel,

Yay! I was waiting to see your review of this one. :) I loved it and made sure I got to see it twice...once the day after it came out (Thursday) and once on the Sunday after. I myself did like the other Spiderman movies, but I think I liked this one better.

I would LOVE to see Spiderman in the next Avengers movie. I'm not a big fan of Iron Man (he's just so arrogant)...so for me, the Avengers - Iron Man + Spiderman = Perfection. :P

Oh, and I agree--Emma Stone was wonderful as Gwen. :)

God bless you!
Joy :)

Avengers 2! [insert hallelujah chorus here]...and yes I have heard that Spiderman will make an appearance along with the Avengers! So excited! It was a little odd at first, but I think he will fit right in!

I've seen the movie and it definitely is a great start and refresher from the previous franchise. I'd expect this new costume to be the next model for Spider-man costumes this year.
